The new year is quickly approaching! We thought we would share three fun ways to ring in the new year in Rutland County this year.

Fireworks and Snow Groomer Parade

Most new year celebrations include fireworks, but how about a parade of snow groomers? At Killington Mountain’s new K-1 Base Lodge, family-friendly activities like mask making, coloring, board games, and a NYE-themed photo booth will be offered inside. Throughout the day enjoy live music from King Margo and music from DJ Dave. Outside, gather around a fire pit for s’mores. Later in the evening, watch fireworks and a parade of snow groomers!

Go to the Opera

Maybe staying warm inside and listening to music is more your scene. If so, ring in the new year in Brandon, Vermont at the BARN Opera House. This year, The Pirates of Penzance will perform! Following the show, the party will continue with a cash bar at the BARN Opera House. There will be a live stream of the fireworks from Times Square.

First Day Hike

If you are looking for something to do on the first day of the year, take a free guided hike! The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources posts a list of guided hikes throughout the state. Hikers are asked to pre-register, dress for the weather, and bring beverages and snacks. Our local hikes will take place at Bomoseen State Park in Castleton, Slate Valley Trails in Poultney, and the Taconic Mountains Ramble State Park in Hubbardton. This is a great way to start the year off in a healthy way, surrounded by fresh air.
