Vermont is the Best State for Mountain Biking

It’s true! In an analysis of all fifty states, Vermont ranked number one for mountain biking. The study looked at the number of trails, the percentage of hilly terrain, the number of national parks, the state’s bike-ability score, and the number of top destinations per state. Vermont has a total of 2,520 bike trails. That is equal to 402 trails per 100,000 people, which is the highest percentage of any state. To top it off, 80% of the state has hilly terrain.

Slate Valley Trails

Weaving the way through the southwestern portion of Vermont, are the Slate Valley Trails. There are multiple trails within the biking network and each trail system is different. Some of the trails are on private property but are open to the public through the landowner’s generosity and their partnership with Slate Valley Trails. Because of this, you will want to research each trail before you go, the trails have different guidelines and rules for parking at the trailhead. Each year, the network blazes new trails, attracting more visitors from across the country. The Slate Valley Trails website has a place to check trail conditions and updates! The updates are broken down between a few of the trail systems and list each trail so you know which are fit for riding and which trails to avoid at the moment. Slate Valley Trails’ website even has a place to report trail issues such as blowdowns, trail corridor issues, and drainage or trail condition issues.
